Hello! My name is Jai-Lin! I currently study at the University of Texas at Dallas as an Animation major with a minor in Asian studies. I happened to find and be accepted into this wonderful opportunity this month as I was searching for study abroad programs. I am incredibly honored and grateful to have this opportunity to travel to Japan for 6 weeks under the JaLS (Japanese Learning school) summer program in Kyoto.
This program gives me the opportunity to further my studies in the Japanese language as well as culture. As many may know, Japan is a giant hub for animation companies and technology. I hope to one day work in Japan as a Lighting artist or director to possibly further their 3D animation field. Teaching the subject is also a big interest of mine, to push the new generation of artists out into the world. This study abroad trip is going to be my first base in becoming fluent in Japanese as well as leading my career into Japan. Which means so much to me, I couldn't have imagined myself doing this years ago, so I am extremely excited!

Some details about the trip:
  • 6 weeks long from July 15th to the 23rd of August 2019!
  • Summer course which includes 15 hours of language classes per week and cultural activites around Kyoto (2 per week).
  • I am staying with a host family for the whole time!
  • Many opportunites to talk and meet with locals, networking while practicing Japanese is pretty amazing!
This trip is costly for me, I thank my parents for pitching in some but I need some help gathering funds for the flight and school supplies. I thank even the tiniest of help whether it be sharing this campaign or donating a dollar, I really can't thank you enough.
