My Travel Story

Unfortunately due to the recent explosion of Volcan de Fuego in Guatemala, I have been advised by the British and Guatemalan governments not to carry out my volunteering program there due to the continuous threat of another explosion and the toxic ash that remains in the air. I was really looking forward to my trip, however I would have been disappointed if upon arrival I was not able to help as much as I'd hoped.
So instead I am planning on carrying out a very similar project in San Jose, Costa Rica where I will be building and restoring community buildings.

In highly developed areas of the world such as the UK, we can often take for granted resources that are available to us, one of those being free education. I think it is saddening that there are children today who want to go to school and learn, but simply cant because there are no schools where they live. I believe everyone should have access to an education, no matter where you live or where you come from, and so for 3 weeks in July and August I will be volunteering in Guatemala to help build schools in the local communities. 

Having never travelled to Guatemala before I am excited to experience a new culture and know that I am making a difference to the lives of local people at the same time. A spanish speaking host family will provide me with somewhere to stay for the 3 weeks I am there, as well as providing me with meals everyday and taking care of me. 

The money associated with the program cost is used to pay the host family for hosting me for 3 weeks and it is also used to purchase the raw materials needed for construction of the schools. 

It would really mean a lot to me if you could help me fundraise for this trip, giving as little or as much as you can, so I can help the children of Guatemala to attend school and follow their dreams.
