My Travel Story
Many countries in Africa lack enough schools for children. Photo credit: https://buck4change.com/project/build-a-school-in-africa/
One group of individuals who are consistently excluded from education are girls. ABC News states that of the millions of children out of school around the world, over half are girls, with 33 million fewer girls than boys in primary schools. This statistic is very disheartening, because the getting an education is a way to break a cycle of poverty and provides numerous opportunities for the future for everyone. When young girls are denied this, it makes them more likely to marry younger, have more children, and make significantly less money later in life.
Many girls and boys who are denied education come from extremely impoverished families. In the developing world, 72 million primary school age children are not in school, according to Global Issues. This is extremely problematic, because it creates a cycle of poverty that continues for generations. Children who are not educated have a great deal of difficulty finding a way to get their own children into school.
