My Travel Story

by: Christy Parks Start Date: May 1, 2013 - End Date: Aug 28, 2013

Hi there,

My name is Christy Parks, I am nineteen year old Londoner who works part time in Social Media but spend most of my time doing volunteer work educating youth on the dangers of drugs. I am planning on doing a volunteer excursion with Volunteer Sothern Africa, joining a project called ‘Living with Lions.’ This project is designed to continue the conservation of these incredible animals whose lives are threatened by poachers and the destruction of their natural habitat.

I have always loved animals, and it has been my dream for years to join this sort of project where I could help the animals and the amazing teams that works with them. I am truly passionate about this and had plans to engage in just such a trip on my gap year. Unfortunately my plans had to change and I had to take a part time job. I continued to do volunteer work in London because I strongly believe in helping those that can’t help themselves. But now I feel like the time is right for me to live my dream of working with animals in South Africa.

The project includes helping with daily tasks such as feeding and caring for the animals, cleaning and maintaining the animal enclosure and maintaining the park, and interacting with visitors.

I fully intend to save up the money myself for my flights and all expenses whilst on the sanctuary. I need help to raise the costs requested by the sanctuary for all volunteers - £1500 for a three week stay. I can’t ask any one individual to fund this all – I am counting on the generosity of all those who love animals as much as I do and want to give a little something to help me help them.

I know you don't know me personally, but I guarantee that this is a worthy cause and you will do some good in this world by supporting it.

Thank you in advance for any amount you are able to donate. Feel free to ask me any questions about me, the project or Volunteer Southern Africa.
