My Travel Story

College is often known as “the best four years of your life”, however that is only true if you put in the effort to experience as many things possible. As a time for experimenting, socially and educationally, you challenge yourself to take on and overcome any obstacle in your way. I always dreamt of studying abroad somewhere in France, dreamt of a new culture filled with the allure of romance and adventure. Even now when I think of studying abroad I see the same fantasies I had as a kid, however now I also see it as a chance to take part in a community. Communities filled with opportunities that will help me grow and experience the realities of life hidden away behind the façade of ignorance. I admittedly fall short from the standards of an engineer, I see problems and seek shortcuts rather then long-term solutions, and I look for solutions rather than devising my own. As a student starting out in a field this may be acceptable but once I enter the job market this will be poison. I believe that studying abroad will not only expand my general knowledge of computer programming but also “fix” my attitude, my work ethics. A time spent without the comfort of home, friends, teachers I can ask for help will undoubtedly increase my own self-confidence and ability to understand the reasoning behind a function letting me own it not just use it. By studying abroad in France I believe it will help me adapt to a new environment quicker. Taking that back home it will let me quickly fit into a new team, a workforce, without the hesitation that always held me back a step. A new culture will open and broaden my perspective letting me slow down from the quick NYC pace and take a moment to stop and see all the things I overlooked in life, reinventing my priorities. Study abroad is my one dream that never changed from childhood and I want to pursue it regardless of how difficult it may be to a budding introvert like me. Ultimately creating a new and more ambitious personality that will help me succeed as a leader in my field, taking control of my own future.
