My Travel Story

So we’re all aware of the sad reality that is our parasitic activity on Earth. We know that we, as a species. are carelessly destroying the world we live on day by day. Every second, 1.5 acres of the Amazon Rainforest, home to half of all the world's plants and animal species, is exterminated.  We have created the most rapid extinction rate in history, wiping out over a hundred species dwelling in the Amazon every single day. This rainforest is brimming with abundance, for example the number of medicines that stem from the Amazon is huge and with only 1% of the rainforest resources tested for medicinal purposes, we are obliterating potential cures before we even have a chance discover them. As a nature enthusiast, as I'm sure many of you are too - these facts urge me to get up and do something.

But I'm here to deliver GOOD NEWS woo! ☀️ This good news is, you can do something to help this situation. You can help save the Amazon Rainforest. Every day we are given a chance to make a difference and today this is one of yours

How you ask? I had the same question (bear with me ). I have always been passionate about nature and wildlife and have always wanted to make a difference in the world but never knew how to actually physically go about it. Recently I was introduced to a website about a reputable and non-profit organisation called IVHQ who provide volunteering opportunities all over the world, and what caught my eye was the Jungle Conservation programme based in Peru. After researching and learning about what we can individually do to make a difference I was smitten ngl.

Long story short, myself and a few others from UCD will be heading off into the jungle in August. We will be conserving the jungle stationed in a biological research station for about a month by means of: reforestation, monitoring and researching wildlife, working on farms and organic agriculture in order the conserve what we have left of this beautiful planet.
