My Travel Story

I have been given the opportunity to participate in an international internship with The Intern Group in Madrid, Spain. The Intern Group will pair me with an organization within the NGO's and Nonprofits industry which best fits my interests and abilities. I will work there for six weeks, and in doing so gain invaluable professional experience, skills, and connections along the way. Since my internship in college with Legacy International I have been drawn to nonprofit work as I believe that focusing on community and youth development is the best way to achieve progress and effect positive change in any society.

Those who know me, know I am one to jump at any opportunity to travel, but this one, I believe, holds extra promise as it will give me the chance to improve my Spanish. And once the program is over I plan to put my TEFL certificate to use and teach English for a time. So a moderate level of Spanish fluency will be essential for me to live and get around on my own once the program is over.

The actual program cost is 3470 euros and this covers my accomodation, a month of free public transport, many professional development resources, and several cultural activities, but the rest is up to me! Any contribution you can spare would allow me to offsett the program cost, pay for my flight and keep me fed while I am there.

Any donation you can spare would be immensely appreciated!! You can also show your support by referring friends to my page! Thank you for your support.

  • One Week Till Program Ends...

Six weeks flew by like it was nothing, and next week will be my last at The Fun Plan as their Communications and Marketing intern! During my time here I have learned a lot- many times through trial and error so I've certainly had my fair share of speed bumps along the way. But the internship was a great experience! I learned a lot about content posting and SEO optimization and the people were all super nice. The cities I've been to were gorgeous! So far I've been to Toledo, Cuenca and Segovia apart from Madrid. And now I am hunting for English teaching jobs and apartments!

I'm also sorry I've been so slow on posting for my blog and video updates. One of the road-blocks I mentioned earlier has been terrible wifi and even worse computer issues so I've been limited to my phone much of the time. There have been other difficulties as well... quite a lot actually.

Me and my housemate, Caroline (who I may spend xmas in the UK with) joke all the time that "Spain hates us", whenever something goes wrong. Which is surprisingly often! LOL but I will get to them, I promise.

    Alive and Surviving in Madrid!
Hello all! I made it to Madrid and have officially survived my first week here! For those of you waiting for the weekly video update and blog post I promised, I will be posting them very soon. Unfortunately I've hit some roadblocks since arriving that have delayed me from doing so sooner. The first being that I still don't have my main suitcase! It has been at Charles de Gaul airport for a week and 3 days now! Long story short, CDG is the most confusing, unhelpful airport in existence and I am easily swayed by people in uniform. (For the full version, read my upcoming blog post). So I had to buy a lot of stuff to get by without my suitcase and speaking with French airport people has been uber stressful but hopefully my travel insurance will reimburse me and thankfully the situation appears to be working out and I should have my suitcase soon!
Second roadblock: wifi at my apartment works on every device EXCEPT my tablet/mini laptop. And I've had a hard time finding places with free wifi nearby.

Besides all that though things are great! The Fun Plan people and working space are both great. The other interns are nice as well and I've seen some cool attractions and sites in the city so far as well!

    Will post more soon :)
