My Travel Story

by: Lauren Beetham Start Date: Apr 18, 2016 - End Date: Jun 16, 2016
For many years I have always hoped that one day I would get the chance to work with wild life animals. This month I have been given the opportunity to travel over seas to South Africa and volunteer for a Monkey Rehabilitation Foundation. The excitement and joy this has given me is undescribable. It is truly a chance of a life time. It is not everyday you get to travel the world to meet different people from different countries and do what you have a passion for. What a great opportunity to get involved in true wildlife conservation.

In a few weeks I will be graduating from the Veterinary Technician program from St. Clair and I couldn't think of a better way to end my schooling then to travel to South Africa to volunteer. This experiece would impact my education and career. Not only would I be able to take what I have learned from school and use it there but I would be learning so much more. One day I hope to work with wildlife so having this experience to share with others especially to my future employer will be such a huge benefit.

The rehabilitation centre is designed to handle injured monkeys of all ages and handle babies that become orphaned each year. International volunteers make this centre possible. During my time volunteering for the Monkey foundation, other volunteers and myself will be making a difference for these amazing wild life creatures. We will help rehabilitate orphaned and injured primates. We will help take care of the monkeys in a sanctury for primates that may be injured until they are healthy enough to be released back into the wild. We will be involved in the conservation and rehabilitation of this unique primate. I will be able to study the life style and environment of the monkey species. We will also provide an eduation program to inform the public about this primate.

I am officially a Global Volunteer and I am on my way to making a truly positive change in the world and opening doors to new adventures! This will be such a rewarding experience. I hope that anyone can help donate for this trip. Every bit counts and donations will be put towards the trip itself which goes towards running The Vevet Monkey Foundation making it possible to help save these monkeys.
