My Travel Story

by: Olivia Buttigheri Start Date: Oct 12, 2015 - End Date: Dec 10, 2015
American born and raised, I've always been proud to call myself an Italian-American. The Italian in me has always been present, despite my green eyes. This opportunity will send me to Florence, Italy for three weeks to live on my own, take 2 classes, equaling 6 credits towards my undergraduate graduation, and engulf myself in the culture. I've been to Italy in the past, but this would be my first time on my own, which is going to be an amazing experience. I've lived on my own in the past and have only grown from it-- emotionally, mentally, and psychologically. While away, I plan on traveling around using the metro, planes, cabs, and on foot to try new foods, meet new people, and experience new situations. The language barrier will be a challenge, but it will only further my involvement with the culture. As excited as I am to see the greatest tourist attractions, my goal is to meet Florence locals and find out what kept them in Florence. My plan is to determine what symbol is most important to the culture and what makes them stand out, and get the symbol or object tattooed on my body by a top Florentine artist. This will make my adventure permenant and I will never forget the opportunity.

  • Tattoo Idea!

As discussed in my campaign, I was looking to get an important symbol of Florence tattooed on my body. Since Florence is in the Tuscany region, I'm thinking about getting a grapevine on me in terms of the wine culture. What do you think? Where should I get it?
