Conor Gallagher's recent international break with England was another largely inactive period for the Atlético Madrid midfielder. In two games, he only played a total of six minutes, coming on as a late substitute in England’s 3-1 win over Finland. This follows a similar pattern from the previous international break in September, where he was called up but saw minimal action.
 
While Atlético is proud to have their players called up to their national teams, the club is not entirely happy with situations like Gallagher's. The risks associated with international duty—such as fatigue and possible injury—are compounded when a player barely gets any playing time, which is frustrating for both the player and the club.
