My Travel Story

Why Korea? For the past two years I have been studying the Korean language and I am also in love with the rich culture and history that surrounds it. While researching language schools in Korea, I stumbled upon Gwangju University of Health and fell in love with idea of earning a 2 year degree in Nutrition while also studying Korean Language and Literature.

I have been an active barista in the city of Seattle for the past 6 years and would love to open my own coffee shop someday. So, earning a degree in Nutrition would greatly benefit me in running a healthful cafe: possibly a cafe in Korea!

Why should you fund me?:

A.) Living on a barista salary is not so glamorous. Even with two jobs it is hard to put money aside. I have been putting all my tips into savings at the end of each month for the past year and a half. Originally I was saving up for a vacation to Korea since the thought of returning to school never even crossed my mind. Now, it is my number one goal to study and live in Korea.

B.) Scholarships for studying abroad without already being enrolled in a 2 or 4-year college here in the States, are hard to come by! Even harder to find scholarships that support studying abroad if you are not enrolled in a study abroad program. I feel like I have exhausted all my resources.

C.) The application requires that I have NO LESS than $5,000 in my bank account at the time I apply to GHU. My funds are currently significantly short of $5,000 since my vacation to NYC for a family reunion last month.

While studying in a foriegn country is significantly less costly than studying in the US, my tuition fees will still be around $10,000 a year ($3,000 ~ $5,000 per semester). And while I do qualify for the Korean Government International Student Scholarship, that would only pay my airfare, room and board and I would recieve a monthly allowence and health insurance. And while I know there are many other campaigns out there, please consider funding mine to help fulfill my dreams of studying in Korea. Thanks!
