Hi everyone! Let me tell you about why I am looking to study abroad and how I feel it will impact my education, career, and personal future. I chose to study abroad in Barcelona due to a strong internal desire to experience true Spanish culture after studying the Spanish language for the last 10 years in my academic career. I will finally be able to immerse myself into the language. Studying abroad in Barcelona offers a unique opportunity to grow personally and professionally while gaining new perspectives on the world. As someone who grew up in a very culturally homogenous town in Northern New Jersey, immersing in a new culture allows for the development of invaluable skills such as adaptability, intercultural communication, and problem-solving. These are traits that will extend beyond the classroom and become essential in healthcare professions specifically, where understanding diverse perspectives can significantly enhance patient care and advocacy. Working towards my goal of becoming a healthcare provider, diversifying myself is an invaluable tool that can only help me grow as a future Physician Assistant. Experiencing Barcelona’s rich blend of history and modernity will deepen connections to the Spanish language and culture, a crucial asset when serving multicultural communities. Since I am yet to see most of Europe, I plan on traveling throughout my stay to learn more about the state of healthcare in other countries and cities and explore the opportunities they have to offer. This journey will provide firsthand insight into global healthcare systems and the needs of underserved populations, steering my future efforts towards becoming an advocate for underrepresented communities. Engaging with diverse perspectives will spark ideas on how to bridge healthcare disparities not only locally, but also internationally. The opportunity to study abroad will certainly foster a deeper appreciation for different ways of living and thinking, ultimately inspiring a healthcare career that values inclusivity and promotes health equity across borders. This experience will shape me into a stronger professional dedicated to making a meaningful impact in underserved communities around the world. On a personal level, living in an apartment complex in Spain where I am surrounded by other students from all over the world and Barcelona locals, will turn me into a more open, confident, and wise person. Learning about Barcelona's culture on a personal level while also traveling on my own for the first time, will force me out of my comfort zone and immeasurably strengthen my independence. Not only do I expect this journey to broaden my horizons to future initiatives in the healthcare world, I also expect to return an improved version of myself after being able to appreciate the geography and culture that the rest of the world has to offer.
