SLV Global: Graduate Mental Health Placement

Through this experience I will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of mental health projects, from working with youth and children with special needs, to working with patients in a psychiatric facility in Sri Lanka, over a period of 12 weeks starting in January, 2018. I will also be teaching english to students of various ages, and will apply my knowledge in psychology, music and other areas to design creative and meaningful sessions. My goal is to positively impact the communities I will be interacting with in Sri Lanka as best as I can through team volunteer work.

In addition, I love how SLV reaches its goals through an ethical and sustainable standpoint, and hope to follow and further these ideals in the process! I am very passionate about helping others, and this opportunity will allow me to do so, while also gaining valuable education and training through specialized workshops that will help me in my future career pursuits in the mental health sector.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with a vibrant culture that has been through lots of hardship, such as the traumatic effects left behind by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, and that is a major reason why I want to focus my efforts there, to help contribute to the underdeveloped mental health resources there, as well as to fully immerse myself in an amazingly different culture! (I will get to explore and travel around the country each weekend!) I am so grateful for this opportunity, and hope that you will help me to reach my goal of $2000, which will cover my placement fees and a few smaller fees. Thank you so much for reading! :)
