My Travel Story

This year, we are going to spend 2 weeks volunteering at Helping Hands from 10-21 December 2018, a non-profit grass roots aid organisation empowering Cambodians living in poverty to help themselves.
Specifically, we will be helping out in the Iqbal School in the village of Prasat Char in Siem Reap.  The school was primarily set up to supplement the local government’s education curriculum and teach over 300 rural children English, health and hygiene related issues.  As a popular tourist destination, English is an absolute necessity for the Cambodian children to learn in order to secure future employment opportunities.  All four of us will have the chance to utilise our different skills, experience and areas of interests - Prem will help out with the more laborious tasks such as repairing faulty parts of the buildings, mending fences or even conduct mini soccer lessons with the keen and aspiring young footballers;  I get to assist in preparing teaching materials, delivering lessons and help out in the kitchens where breakfast and snack meals for the children are prepared while Megan and Jordan will get the chance to design and teach some elementary tumbles and rolls or perhaps ballet classes.  Ultimately, we all get to put our individual skills to good use and share them with these less-privileged children.
