My Travel Story

My name is Samantha Smith, and I'm finishing my last year of college getting a degree in Wildlife Management. This program is through Volunteer South Africa (VSA) and is an amazing organization. I have done one of their programs in the past call Living with Big Cats and learned so many skills from feeding Big Cats to cleaning enclosure areas for not only felines but other animals that called Glen Afric their home. I hope to get the chance to have another life changing experince like that by going to Living with Horses on Safari to have 3 weeks just to improve my Horse skills. However, their are side trips that will be had as well that allow for a greater education into different parts of the world, these other outings are written below. Every little bit will help and this will be a wonderful addition to my applications. My passion is in conservation and rehab of animals which is also a big part of this program.

"Experience the African bush while on horseback! This program offers volunteers a chance to improve their equestrian skills while also going on exciting horseback safaris. Volunteers will take horses for a swim in a dam, gallop through the winding paths of the property, or take a quiet stroll through the bush, meeting impala and giraffe on the way. Each day riders will work hard on improving their riding skills through lessons with experienced riders. Lessons will focus on riding and jumping to improve volunteer’s comfort and riding ability.

In addition to the horseback safaris, volunteers will have an opportunity to experience the Big 5 on evening game drives at a local reserve."
