Hi, 
I'm Chloe and I am a junior in high school in Northern California. As you can see, I am going on a trip to the British Virgin Islands through a program called ActionQuest. I will spend 21 days aboard a boat sailing around the islands with teenagers my age, going on daily scuba dives, visiting the islands and towns, and hiking up the tallest mountains. Sounds like a vacation right? Wrong! While I will be doing all of these amazing things, I will also be educated on the subject I am very passionate about; marine biology. I will conduct coral reef research experiments using tools that professional marine biologists use in the field. The British Virgin Islands contain an array of marine organisms that I have yet to learn about. This is an amazing opportunity for me to be educated on marine biology hands on. Try to think of the boat as a floating, traveling classroom and lab where I can get a jump start on my education of what I will be studying in college. Along with learning about marine life, creature identification, and understanding how to conduct a research experiment, I will be earning four different types of scuba diving certificates and will learn the process of underwater photography. All of these things will help me in my future career in marine sciences.

The cost of this program is $5,780. Unfortunately, that doesn't include a number of things, such as transportation (including airfare and ferry costs) and insurance. Also, a prerequisite of this trip is to be scuba certified, which I have recently achieved and paid for myself by working and saving up. Just like getting scuba certified, I will pay for all of the additional expenses of this trip which totals about $2000 (an average because I can't know exactly how much airfare will cost). This leaves me with $5,780 for to fundraise by the end of March.
