My Travel Story

by: Bilyne Geffrard Start Date: Mar 30, 2022 - End Date: Aug 2, 2022
Hello Beautiful Creature of God!

My name is Bilyne. I was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I currently reside in Florida. I have always been passionate about singing and poetry. At the ripe age of thirteen, I fell in love with foreign languages and public speaking. As a Haitian Creole native speaker; I additionally fluently speak French, English and basic Spanish. I am determined to go to Spain this summer to increase my fluency in Spanish so I can expand my networking possibilities. The Spanish course and internship program will last for 10 weeks (June 12th - August 20th, 2022) at Universidade da Coruña and it is organized through Linguistic Horizons: http://www.linguistichorizons.com/summer-study-abroad-spain/ (if you want to check it out).

I have a college degree in Business Administration and Management, a minor in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Currently I attend UCF majoring in Event Management and minoring in Human Communication. Growing up, I have always dreamed of becoming a motivational speaker, inspiring audience, especially young people, from different cultures, ethnicities, backgrounds and languages. Hence the reason I have always dreamed of speaking multiple languages and immerse myself in another culture.

Nevertheless, for the past twelve years, fear, financial roadblock, intimidation and the overwhelming process have decimated that dream. This season, I am blowing the mold wide open so when I look back on life, I can proudly say, "I can't believe I did that", Instead of saying: "I wish I did that." Going to Spain will not only help me to connect with people from another culture and language; Not to mention, it will help me pave the way for people who are too afraid to walk in their purpose to arrive at the level of influence they were created for.  In addition, this trip will be a reminder for my six-year-old daughter, Ketou, there is no such thing as an unrealistic dream. If her mother did it, she too can do it.

The program fee is $7,495; the airline ticket is $1,500 roundtrip; food and extra expenses like transportation, school supplies will be between $500 and $1,000, three months rent is $3,000. For the next three months, I will pinch pennies however I can—skip my morning coffee out, buy lower-grade gas, pick cheaper cuts of meat at the grocery store, eliminate eating out from my budget and use my skills in Event and Floral Design to earn extra income.

Despite all my efforts, I will still need some help. The more help I get, the closer it will get me to a dream that is finally coming true after 12 years.  Anything will help, even just five dollars (that’s bus fare!) If you donate, I will send you a collection of photos and notes on what I learn from my travel, and if you give me your address, I can send you a postcard from Spain!

Thank you so much for your generous contribution, I can’t tell you how super-duper excited I am for this trip and how grateful I will be to everyone who helps me take full advantage of this opportunity.

May the God of happiness bless you today, tomorrow and for the rest of your life!

View life in a positive way, keep the glass half full!
