My Travel Story

Hi everyone!

My name is Giselle Cancio and I am a graduate student at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University.

I'm honored to announce I have been chosen from a large pool of applicants to report at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games for Cronkite News, Arizona news outlets and potentially national news outlets.

The trip runs from August 1 to August 23. 

A dream that seemed so far away is now one that I'm able to live, but because we are technically student-journalists, it comes at a high cost.

The program fee is $6,550 - which includes tuition, healthcare insurance, working visa and housing - but the total estimated cost of the trip is close to $10,000 when you factor in round trip airfare, ASU healthcare screening, meals, local transportation and personal expenses. 

So I turn to friends and family to graciously ask for your help to get me to Rio. 

I see this trip as an investment into my future in the profession, as this is a life-changing opportunity at the world's biggest sports stage, that will help me become a better writer, videographer, photographer and overall multi-media journalist.

I aim to produce stories that go beyond the scoreboard and I’ll be updating my work on my personal website as well as social media sites, hopefully in real-time. 

My family and friends have always inspired me to reach higher and dream bigger, and for that I am forever grateful. 

I will be taking photographs around Rio de Janeiro on my (few hours) of free time, and as a token of my appreciation for donating, I will share them with you upon my return and frame your favorite for you.
