Celebrating Russefeiring in Norway
My Travel Story
My name is Steven. I am a young man from Ontario, Canada and I would love to travel in and around Oslo, Norway during the begining of May 2018;
There are several reasons why I would like to travel to Norway, they areas follow:
- My family tree begins in Norway around the dawn off the viking era, I grew up with skiis on my feet and stories of trolls. The sentiment of retracing my family roots is reason enough for me to yearn for the fjords but this is simply the first of my points.
- I am a visual arts student specializing in blacksmithing. One of my all time favourite paintings is The Scream by Edvard Munch (certinally my favourite painting of the expressionism movement), which has several renditions and I hope to see one on my proposed journey. There are at least two places in Oslo where The Scream is displayed - The Oslo National Gallery and The Munch Museum.
- The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo is another place that would lend aid to my studies in visual art, especially in providing inspiration for my blacksmithing works.
- Russefeiring is a celebration of the end of school for the graduating classes in Norway begining in the end of April / Begining of May that spans until the National Holiday in Norway on the 17th of May. I moved schools for my final year of high school so I hadn't made enouh friends to intice me to attend prom or the parties surrounding the prom season and I thought that to celebrate Russefeiring would be the perfect way for me to celebrate my graduation - even if it is slightly delayed for me, the Norwegian education system has 13 years whereas Canada has only twelve, putting me (this year) in the same age category as the Russ (graduating students celebrating Russefeiring).
- The College's Teacher's Union organized a faculty strike this year and after five weeks of consecutivly cancelled school, the government had to step in for the sake of the students. Sadly, however, the programe I am in is a double-time program and becauseof that, my class effectivly missed out on ten weeks of education. The aftermath of the strike has left much of the college students of Ontario in a dire financhial state. This is the main reason why I need your help. If I could I would like to pay my own way, and I truly feel bad asking strangers for money.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and generosity.
