My Travel Story

by: Audrey Weiss Start Date: Jan 3, 2025 - End Date: Oct 2, 2025
My name is Audrey Weiss and I am an undergraduate psychology and Spanish double major in university. From a young age, I thought that the best career to dedicate your entire life to was one that could help people. As I grew up, I noticed how everyone has struggles and to this day, I strongly believe that no one deserves to go through them alone. Since then my goal has been to support a wide range of people by becoming a bilingual therapist. The further I study the science of psychology and the language of Spanish, the more intensely I want to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology to contribute to research and better individual lives. In my pursuit to be bilingual in Spanish and be accepted into graduate school, I plan to do a social services internship for 8 weeks in Santiago, Chile through the study abroad company API. This will build my social skills in Spanish and help people along the way, teaching me how to support clients and the community in Chilean culture. My hope is that going on this trip will allow me to immerse myself in the language and culture, teaching me how to communicate in Spanish along with learning skills in psychology from a Latin American perspective.
The following is a description of the internship:
Our Social Services Internships offer an opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of social work, community outreach, and client advocacy. The intern will collaborate with a team to contribute to the well-being and empowerment of individuals and families facing various challenges. As a social services intern some of your responsibilities could include:

Client Support: including conducting intake interviews, active listening, developing care plans, and connecting individuals with the appropriate resources, services, or programs
Case Management: maintaining accurate and organized records; monitoring progress toward established goals
Community Outreach: Organizing and participating in events, workshops, and awareness campaigns; marketing services to the community; creation of informational materials for clients; social media and digital marketing outreach to bring awareness of programming
Administrative support: Support day to day tasks such as data entry, filing, and scheduling; prepare reports and presentations on programming, funding, or client outcomes

I ask that you please donate what you can to aid my professional and cultural development as I embark on my journey to Santiago, Chile from May to July 2025. ¡Gracias por dar lo que puede!
