My Travel Story

Hi everyone,

My name is Marine and I have recently graduated from a Bachelors degree from Monash University with majors in Zoology and in Ecology and Conservation Biology. I am very passionate about animal welfare and in particular the conservation of endangered African wildlife. In my spare time, I have been volunteering for The Thin Green Line Foundation and the International Ranger Federation both centered on anti-poaching initiatives in developing countries, as well as in numerous animal shelters.

I will finally have the opportunity to make a difference in the field by spending 4 months in Africa to volunteer and undertake several veterinary internships. Firstly, I will be working hands-on with Dr. Rogers, an experienced and highly regarded wildlife veterinarian who specialises in threatened species such as rhinos, elephants and lions for one month in South Africa. I will be assisting with the medical treatment including treating wounds and diseases, pregnancy testing, rhino dehorning etc. I will then be travelling to Malawi to volunteer for Lilongwe Wildlife Centre’s wildlife rehabilitation program where I will be participating in animal husbandry, orphan care and clinical research. The rest of my time will be spent volunteering for other organisations, orphanages and local schools.

These experiences are paid, so the money I am raising goes directly towards worthwhile conservation initiatives including the projects I will be participating in, and will be crucial in providing better resources, equipment and training to those who dedicate their lives to protect and care for wildlife. The funding will also go towards supporting and educating local populations. This life-changing experience is crucial in allowing me to gain hands-on veterinary experience and begin making a difference for a worthy cause. Not only will you be supporting amazing initiatives and the people who run them, but you will also be helping me achieve my goal of becoming a wildlife vet and conservationist.

Je m’appelle Marine et je suis diplômée de l'Université de Monash à Melbourne avec spécialisation en zoologie et en écologie. Je suis très passionnée par le bien-être des animaux et en particulier par la protection des espèces sauvages africaines en voie de disparition. Pendant mon temps libre, je me suis portée volontaire pour The Thin Green Line Foundation (TTGLF) et la Fédération Internationale des Gardes Forestiers (IRF), toutes deux centrées sur des initiatives de lutte contre le braconnage dans les pays en voie de développement, ainsi que dans des refuges pour animaux.

J'aurai enfin l'occasion de participer à cette lutte sur le terrain en passant 4 mois en Afrique pour faire du bénévolat et entreprendre plusieurs stages de vétérinaire. Tout d’abord pendant 1 mois je travaillerai de près avec le Dr. Rogers en Afrique du Sud, un vétérinaire expérimenté et réputé, spécialisé dans les espèces sauvages menacées telles que les rhinocéros, les éléphants et les lions. Je m’occuperai des soins médicaux, notamment le traitement des plaies et des maladies, les tests de grossesse, l'écornage des rhinocéros, etc. Je me rendrai ensuite au Malawi pour faire du bénévolat pour un programme de réhabilitation au Lilongwe Wildlife Centre où je participerai au programme de maternité de substitution, aux soins des orphelins et à la recherche clinique. Le reste de mon temps sera consacré à faire du bénévolat pour d'autres organisations tels que des orphelinats et des écoles locales.

Ces expériences sont payantes et l'argent que vous donnerez sur ce site de soutien financera directement des initiatives de protection d’espèces sauvages, tel que les projets auxquels je participerai, et sera vital pour soutenir l’obtention de ressources plus importantes, de matériel et de meilleures formations pour ceux qui consacrent leur vie à la protection de la faune et de leur habitat. Le financement servira également à soutenir et à éduquer les populations locales. C’est une expérience qui transformera ma vie et qui me permettra d’acquérir une connaissance vétérinaire pratique et de commencer à participer à une cause vitale pour la protection des espèces menacées. Non seulement vous soutiendrez des initiatives incroyables ainsi que leurs dirigeants, mais vous m’aiderez également à atteindre mon objectif de devenir vétérinaire pour animaux sauvages et protectrice de la nature.

  • I Got Accepted Into Veterinary School !

    I Got Accepted Into Veterinary School !
    I just wanted to update you all on the fact that I have been accepted into my first preference Veterinary School, The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London, ranked 3rd worldwide. I am beyond excited and very proud of myself for this achievement which brings me one step closer to achieving my goal.
