About Me

I was in the Navy when I got my first camera. Black and white film developed and printed in the ship’s community dark room. No idea what I was doing but I was in love. Out of the Navy I studied photography at the University of New Mexico. At this point in my progression I thought I was studying to be a National Geographic type photographer. That changed quickly when I was exposed to the number one and two photo historians in Beaumont Newhall and Van Daren Coke; An experience that opened my mind and my eyes to the ‘art’ of photography. It was a new vision that stirred my soul. I grew up with this “Marlboro Man” image of the world around me. My father was a small town vet with an area practice of about three counties. From the age of 10 or 11 I was driving while dad napped. The farms, old barns, fields, tactors, villages, and small towns always seemed to have about them this simple beauty of character. A beauty that I was drawn to. “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” John Lennon. A jolting interaction with an instructor, all of my equipment stolen, and other calamities of life converged to insist that being a starving artist was not the path forward. I was good at it so off into business I went. It was long days, weeks, and months with little to reward my soul. Then a camera would turn up and I would experience once again brief moments of real personal joy. Back to work! About 15 years ago I realized that I was indeed getting old and that “someday” had to be now. A bout with cancer cemented the “now” for my life’s final chapter. I determined to change my life and have a dream adventure doing what I love best! I bought an RV and remodeled it to travel the country to find the beauty and euphoria that I get with the challenge of every image. My mission is to find, capture, and share the simple beauty of the unexpected and perhaps to stir a memory of a place you have never been. Life on the road has certainly been hard, challenging, and even scary at times but I still think I am blessed in having the absolute best job and such great life adventures. All that seems to be lacking is you joining me to share these special places and times. It should be fun!
